SSH Beginnings

With today’s trends, the horticultural industry is lacking gardening professionals and qualified landscape designers. Due to this void, the idea of creating a learning environment which would benefit Saskatchewan and the Prairie Provinces was born! Thus the Saskatoon School of Horticulture began the long process of becoming a recognized private vocational school. The curriculum of this exciting new school has been designed to ensure graduates have the ability to master the skills required by the industry, work in a field they are passionate about, and take pride in their new found career.

The following values will be reflected in the ongoing development and implementation of the SSH:

  • Accessible programs and services
  • Industry relevance and responsiveness
  • Customer focused on trainees,                         workers & employers
  • Industry capacity and sustainability of           service
  • Operational efficiency and flexibility
  • Cost-effective programs and services
  • Quality training

PatriciaThe development of the curriculum fits what is needed in the industry. It was developed by Patricia Hanbidge, who is a respected horticulturist. She has had over 25 years in the industry as an educator, a published writer, and a consultant and is very experienced in the field. From the end of a spade to outreach activities in the community, to teaching upper level university courses, she has a unique mix of skills.
